Welcome to the latest rundown of Skool Updates and Features, where we dive deep into the exciting new capabilities that Skool rolled out around July 1st, 2025. If you’re building or managing a community on Skool, this update is a game changer. I’m Marcin, and today I’m walking you through the native video hosting feature that just dropped, along with all the little details that make it a powerful addition to your community toolkit.

Let’s get right into it.

Introducing Native Video Hosting on Skool

June was a quiet month for official feature announcements, but by July 1st, Skool launched native video hosting — a huge leap forward that I’m treating as the June update. Previously, if you wanted to add video content to your posts, comments, or courses, you had to jump through multiple hoops: create a video, upload it to a third-party platform like YouTube, Loom, Vimeo, or Wistia, then grab the link and embed it inside Skool. It was a bit clunky.

Now, with native video hosting, you can upload videos directly from your computer, making the entire process seamless and lightning fast. No more detours outside the platform, no more linking hassles. Just click a button, pick your video file, and boom — it’s right there in your post or comment.

One of my favorite things about this update is the drag and drop functionality. I use a screen recording app that generates a thumbnail preview of my recording immediately after I finish. Now, instead of having to save the file and upload it manually, I simply drag that thumbnail right into Skool’s upload area. It’s like recording inside the app itself — but even better because I can use my preferred recording tools.

While Skool doesn’t yet have a built-in record button to capture your screen directly, I’m hopeful they’ll add that soon. For now, the drag and drop method is more than sufficient, especially if you already have your own recording workflow.

Uploading Videos on Mobile: Just as Easy

The native video hosting feature isn’t just for desktop users. The Skool mobile app mirrors this functionality beautifully. When you write a post on mobile, you tap the video button, which opens a dropdown menu where you can select “Add Video.” This takes you to a screen very similar to the desktop upload interface.

You can select a video from your phone’s photo library, record a new video directly in the app, or browse files in your folders. This flexibility means you can effortlessly add video content wherever and whenever inspiration strikes.

Where Can You Use Videos? Everywhere.

Skool’s native video hosting works in all the places you’d expect — and some you might not have anticipated. You can embed videos in any post, any comment, and yes, even inside courses. To add a video to a course, just hit the edit button, use the video upload button, and you’re set.

One neat feature is thumbnail editing. When you upload a video, Skool automatically picks a thumbnail, but you can change it to whatever frame you prefer. For example, if you’re sharing a screen recording but want to show a friendly face or a smiling moment from the video as the thumbnail, you can do that easily.

This is a big deal because thumbnails are the first impression of your video content. Sometimes the default thumbnail is a random frame that doesn’t do your video justice. Now you have control to choose something eye-catching or quirky — whatever fits your style and message.

Timestamp Feature: Organize Your Videos Like a Pro

Another powerful addition is the ability to add timestamps to your videos, similar to YouTube’s chapter markers. You can start with 00:00 for your intro, then add other important points throughout the video. This lets viewers jump to the parts they want, improving engagement and user experience.

Currently, Skool doesn’t have automatic transcript generation, but you can manually add transcripts if you want. While the transcript feature is still basic — it just displays the text you add — it hints at potential future enhancements like searchable transcripts or synced captions.

For now, a clever workaround is to use third-party tools that generate transcripts while you record, then feed those transcripts into an AI tool to create timestamps and chapter titles. You can then paste those timestamps into your Skool video posts, making navigation easy for your community.

Video Playback: Quality, Captions, and User Control

Watching videos on Skool feels smooth and professional. You have the usual controls to mute or adjust volume, toggle captions (auto-generated in English for now), change playback speed, and select video quality up to full HD.

One thing I really appreciate is the resume feature. If you start watching a video, switch away, and then come back later, the video picks up right where you left off. This is a small but vital detail that shows how much thought went into the user experience.

What’s Next? Upcoming Video Features to Look Forward To

Skool’s native video hosting is just the beginning. The platform has teased some exciting features coming soon:

  • Video in Direct Messages (DMs): Imagine sharing videos privately within your community chats. This will boost engagement and foster deeper connections.
  • Video on the About Page: Adding videos to your profile or community about page will make your presence more personal and dynamic.
  • Admin Video Download: Administrators will soon be able to download videos — both their own and those uploaded by community members. This adds a layer of control and backup options.

I’m keeping a close eye on these developments and will share all the new video-related updates as they roll out.

Why Native Video Hosting Changes the Game for Skool Communities

Before this update, video content creation and sharing on Skool felt like a chore. You had to juggle multiple platforms and deal with compatibility issues. Now, native video hosting streamlines the process, letting creators focus on what matters most: engaging their audience.

Here’s why this matters:

  1. Simplicity: Upload videos directly without detours to third-party sites.
  2. Speed: Drag and drop saves time and effort.
  3. Control: Customize thumbnails and timestamps to create polished content.
  4. Mobile Friendly: Upload and share videos from anywhere.
  5. Future-Proof: Upcoming features promise even deeper integration and control.

For community builders, this means less friction and more powerful ways to connect with members through video — one of the most engaging content formats available.

Tips for Making the Most of Skool’s Native Video Hosting

To get the best out of this new feature, consider these tips:

  • Use Custom Thumbnails: Take advantage of thumbnail editing to make your videos stand out in posts and courses.
  • Leverage Timestamps: Break up longer videos with chapter markers to boost viewer retention.
  • Bring Your Own Recording Tools: Until Skool adds a built-in recording button, use your favorite screen capture or video apps to create polished content.
  • Prepare Transcripts: Generate transcripts with AI tools or apps to improve accessibility and SEO, even if Skool’s transcript feature is still basic.
  • Engage on Mobile: Don’t neglect your mobile app — it’s fully capable of uploading and managing videos, perfect for on-the-go community management.
